Over 250 experts attended the hematology-oncology International Symposium "New Frontiers in Hematological Malignancies" held in Pamplona.
new-frontiers-simposium-1250 researchers gathered during November (16-18) in the Baluarte Conference Palace to attend the International Symposium "New Frontiers in Hematological Malignancies" organized by the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) of the University of Navarra in Pamplona, the Institut National de la Sante et la Recherche Medicale (INSERM) in Toulouse, and the Fundación Ramón Areces in Madrid.

22 experts from national and international centers such as Harvard University in Boston, the National Cancer Institute U.S., the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and the Stanford University in California, presented the latest advances in research and treatment of the most frequent haematological malignancies: leukemias, lymphomas and myelomas. According to doctors Felipe Prosper and Jose A. Martinez-Climent, scientists at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and CIMA, organizers of the symposium, declared "Translational research will select and implement the most effective drug for each patient according to the cellular and molecular characteristics of the disease".

Among the scientific advances that were addressed in this conference, highlight new therapeutic strategies made through basic research and the role of hematopoietic stem cells in the development of haematological malignancies.

Thanks to funding from European funds and the Government of Navarra. For this reason, CIMA has initiated a research synthesis of new drugs for patients with acute leukemias. It also develops a study to implement targeted therapies lymphomas.

ctp_y_euFollowing the agreement between the Poctefa Management Authority and the coordinators, the Foundation for Applied Medical Research (FIMA) is pleased to announce that the proposal for the project entitled “Cooperación para la Investigación Transpirenaica en la Terapia Innovadora de la Leucemia (CITTIL) has been approved”. Both organisations involved, FIMA in Pamplona and INSERM in Toulouse, have defined as their principal objective the development and subsequent treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia LLA). In order to foment this research and establish firm connections between the partners and also announce the progress of their work, the following website has been created: www.cittil.org.

CITTIL is the acronym of the title of the project "Partnership for Research in Trans-Pyrenean Innovative Therapy for Leukemia", set within the Operational Program for Regional Cooperation France-Spain-Andorra and funded by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and the Department of Innovation, Business and Employment of the Government of Navarre.

CIMA will host an International Symposium entitled New Frontiers in Hematological Malignances.
During the next 16, 17 and 18 of November of 2011 will be held at the Centre for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) of the University of Navarra an International Symposium titled "New Frontiers in Hematological Malignances", organized by the same center from Pamplona, the Institut National de la Santé et la Recherche Medicale (INSERM), from Toulouse, and the Fundación Ramón Areces, from Madrid. The event arise from the collaboration between CIMA and INSERM through the CITTIL project, included in the POCTEFA Program and funded by European FEDER funds, the Government of Navarra and INSERM.

The 2011 Symposium on hematological malignancies will bring together leading experts in the basic and clinical fields of the hematological malignancies, providing a unique opportunity for clinical hematologists, oncologists, research scientists and other members of the cancer research community to meet for discussion of the many issues that remain unclear or controversial surrounding these complex neoplasias.

To the Simposium will attend as speakers the following researchers; from United States Dr. Louis Staudt (NIH, Bethesda), Dr. Clara Bloomfield (Ohio State University), Dr. Ari Melnick (Weill Cornell Medical College, New York), Dr. David Scadden (Harvard University), Dr. Ash Alizadeh (Standford Comprehensive Cancer Center), Dr. Selina Chen-Kiang (Weill Cornell Medical College, New York), Dr. Adolfo Ferrando (Columbia University Medical Center), Dr. Guillermo García-Manero (University of Texas) and Dr. Izidore Lossos (University of Miami), from Canada Dr. Randy Gascoyne (British Columbia Cancer Agency), from United Kingdom Dr. Nicholas Cross (Salisbury District Hospital) and Dr. Dominique Bonnet (London Research Institute), from France Dr. Hugues de Thé (Sant Louis Hospital, Paris), from Belgium Dr. Jan Cools (KU Leuven), and from Spain Dr. Jesús San Miguel (Hospital Clínico de Salamanca), Dr. Thomas Graf (Centro de Regulación Genómica, Barcelona), Dr. Ángeles García-Pardo (Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas, Madrid), Dr. Isidro Sánchez-García (Universidad de Salamanca), Dr. Juan Valcárcel (Centro de Regulación Genómica, Barcelona), Dr. Miguel A.
